"US Probes Chinese AI Firm DeepSeek Amid Chip Concerns and Accuracy Failings"


An investigation is likely to be carried out into use of american  old  chips by Chinese DeepSeek AI chatbot, the export of which were banned. This was said by US officials.

DeepSeek,  the most downloaded app in a matter of days, launched a free, artificial intelligence assistant that has been wildly popular.

The conerns have been expressed by US officials that its popularity and successful launch infew days rocking the IT world ,  China could overtake the United States in artificial intelligence technology, wiping out $1 trillion  in U.S. tech stocks. 

As fas as its accuracy is concerned its speech recognition was only 17 percent  in delivering messages and information  compared to just 10 percent in  Western competitors such as OpenAI ChatGPT and Google Gemini. 

Newsguard trust rating servicehas released a report, according to which, the chatbot repeated false claims 30% of the time and provided unclear or unhelpful answers 53% of the time, when responding to news-related questions, resulting in an 83% failure rate. 

This figure is higher than the 62% disapproval rate of  its Western competitors, and it raises doubts about the artificial intelligence technology. 

It is only a small part. Within days of its launch, the DeepSeek chatbot was the most downloaded app on Apple’s App Store, as concerns about the United States leadership in artificial intelligence and the outbreak of a market crisis wiped out the value of American technology stocks. About $1 billion. 

The Chinese startup did not immediately respond to a request for comment. NewsGuard said it had 300 tips similar to DeepSeek that it uses to evaluate its Western counterparts, including 30 tips on 10 false claims circulating online.
